Vae Hamilton

May 16, 1947 - October 3, 2022

Vae Hamilton brings life to her art through layers of images, translucent paints, dyed tissue papers, and stenciling, stamping and surface embellishments. Her mixed media collages have texture and create a feeling of three dimensional on a two dimensional surface. Hamilton often uses symbolism and many times her collages tell a story. Animals often appear in her art work including birds, dogs and many horses. Hamilton grew up in Macomb, Illinois and began riding horses at an early age which has continued throughout her life. The strength, energy and beauty of the horse is visually alive in Hamilton’s paintings, as she captures on canvas their soft eyes and gentle gaze. A full time artist and instructor, Hamilton earned art degrees from Western Illinois University and the University of Colorado.
