James Thoma

Jim Thoma handcrafts each unique shaker item in his workshop in the hills of East Tennessee. Jim, a woodworker his entire life, has discovered that crafting Shaker boxes and designing new shaker inspired pieces is a new found passion. Each box is lovingly created by hand over many hours.

Traditional methods of blending thin woods around a solid core are still used in Jim’s bentware. Copper tacks are used in the graceful swallowtail fingers to hold to get their bands together, and the tops and bottoms are compression fitted and held in place with toothpicks.
