Amos Westmoreland

Every creative skill has an infinite learning curve. I have the basic fundamental skills to be a good painter; however, I am excited about the endless possibilities of becoming a better artist. I believe an artist’s work should connect emotionally and/or spiritually with the viewer.

That’s what I strive for. That’s what being an artist is all about.

Neither plein air painting nor copying landscape photos is what I do. I use photographs to establish a sound composition and then paint with the abandonment of photography restrictions. Uncomplicated compositions with bold color and palette knife texture adds power to paintings. Originality and creativity adds spirit. I want the viewer to know what my intentions are in every piece of work; however, I don’t want to tell them what to see. I want them to stop and ponder, and, just maybe, they will relate to my intentions.
